I like cutting them into bite-sized pieces, putting them in a tempura batter and deep frying. It makes a great party snack.

Another good suggestion.

No - just rough Italian. "ini" is the diminutive suffix for many nouns e.g. tortellini.

"olo" is the suffix for something that is a larger version.

The vegetable in it's ordinary state - not the smaller or large version. is zuccha

Well there you are, you learn something every day. Thanks for the description, we'll be coming to you for gardening advice.

DB, you should try your hand at "atlantic Pumpkins" - google em!

Will do. As long as they don't breed like "zukes"

PS Just had a look. No thanks! One bathtub wouldn't be enough for one of those beasts!

I think my dad planted zukes once, we had them coming out of our ears. I like 'em cut in half lengthwise, brushed with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkled with Italian seasoning, and grilled on the barbie.

AZ - Never heard them called "zukes" before. Maybe you guys use a little plutonium for fertiliser.

Those are so large that they are no longer zucchini - They are zuccholo!

Around the end of one summer, my family had a little protest and my husband held up his fork - with a little chunk of zucchini or courgette on the end of it and stated, "this is the last piece I am eating this year". I had only planted three plants. I had to give the surplus to neighbours.

Peggy - Our neighbours are doing well indeed. "Zuccholo". No idea. Did you make that word up?
