My four year old Panasonic widescreen LCD TV that cost over $2,000 went "KPUFF" during the storm. The reason I am telling you this is not because of my misfortune - other's were losing there homes BUT because Panasonic don't make the electrical part anymore and the TV had to be thrown out. My very old TV with the old fashioned tube is still going strong. Buyer Beware.

We had 97mm in one day sometime last week. We've finally got a nice sunny day this morning, the rain's followed my step-daughter up to the Whitsundays for her honeymoon.

I was watching a news clip last night of a wedding that got washed out in the Melbourne storms. What a disaster for the poor buggers.

Those pics of the flooded streets of Melbourne are amazing! I wonder how my cousin made out, he lives in Ivanhoe.

There are a lot of folk getting home from the Labour Day weekend and finding their houses aren't in the same condition as they left it. Some sad clips on the news last night.

Here in the central valley of California we go through long periods of extreme swings also. This winter has been mildly wet but that follows on the footsteps of a 5 (at least) year drought. Some years we'll have so much rain, and snow up in the Sierras, that the spring run off causes a heap o' problems. Its strange to cross a river bed that has been dry for decades on a Monday and then on Tuesday the water is lapping at the roadway, which is anchored on 50' pilings and the bridge is 1/4 mile across.

Sounds somewhat familiar especially to our folks up north.

Boy nothing is average this year, everywhere the weather is extreme.Ring of fire is kicking up. What next?

Actually, we have had a very average summer and these storms can crop up at this time of year. We've had our monthly rainfall all in two days.

Does that mean that all the water restrictions have been lifted?

No. We've gone from Stage 4 back to 3 which means we can water gardens 8 hours a week up from 2. The change wasn't due to these rains but new water measures including a new aquafer bore coming online. We're also going to get water from Melbourne as they are piping from rivers up north and a new desalination plant being built.

I say, "Bring me more snow Dammit!!"

I take it you are enjoying your skiing. Except maybe for ski lift partners.
