I forgot to mention an incident from my meter reading last week. Reading the major accounts, we have to do the ambulance station and fire station which are across the road from each other in Geelong. I have to use a phone at the entrance of the ambulance station and ring a bell at the front door of the fire station to be allowed in to read the meters.
Everytime I go there, I have trouble getting anyone to answer the door at either station even though the two places are manned (or womaned). Someone usually saunters out when they feel like it much to my annoyance as time is money in this business.
So I was walking towards the stations and decided a quick call to 000 reporting a car fire and someone injured would be in order. Next thing, out screams a fire engine and an ambulance and in strolls one meter reader through the open door to read the meters.
Of course, I would only think that.
Or would I?
Ohh and next time, just stand outside their door and yell “Fire!”
I mean, why not?
So I’ll stand outside the ambulance station and go “nee naw nee naw nee naw”
Ummm, it moves for me everyday that’s why I went on a diet…
We had neighbors who felt it, but I must have been walking around…
So no. It was very light here.
Not as bad as Haiti.
I was told by the daughter of local Chief of Police that if she found herself in a dangerous situation while walking to and from her downtown parking garage the first thing she should do is start breaking store windows. Her dad, the Chief of Police, said store alarms would bring officers faster than her screaming help at the top of her lungs. Maybe you should throw rocks at the Emergency Center windows, and when they come to see what’s going on you just stand there looking down the street yelling “hooligans, they went that-a-way!” Then you can prance on in and read the meters.
Thanks for those words of wisdom. Duly noted.
You didn’t did you.Haiti got a good one today, 7.5. Daylight will bring some bad news.
And bad news it certainly is

p.s. – I know that was just a dream because we both know that Emergency Centers record all incoming phone numbers, which are easily traced.
Old joke:
Know how to make a cop come?
Dial 9-1-1.
Maybe I used the public phone box nearby. What’s a public phone box one may ask.
We used to call them phone booths, then the booths were eliminated. Next we just called them payphones. Alas, those have all but disappeared also. Victim of the cell phone expansion.
Payphone was used here too but I like phonebox being a Doctor Who fan. One took my attention the other day so they must be getting rare. I had to use one on a couple of occasions to ring across country while in the US a few years back and found that to be an ordeal with all the different carriers. A lot simpler here and you just picked up the phone, dropped in a coin and rang anywhere in the country. You didn’t need to worry about coins sometimes!
Ah… the power of the mind, it can open doors for you!
Well said!
Hey, Scott, Wil wants to know (from previous post comments) if the earth moved for you the other day? So do I.
